Task 2

Task 2

Little "i" symbolizes BIG "I" ?

Do you have an ipod, ipad, or iphone?

When there are so many less expensive alternatives to choose from,
people are still willing to pay much more money to purchase products with
this trademark and to wait for months to before enjoying the items. What is the psychology behind it?

  1. I have iphone, but I cannot answer the question. I cannot decide which electric product I can buy, because my mom decides for me. She always threatens me if I can buy those expensive things, I can afford my economic ability, so I have to pay all of the payment including the insurance payment and other things. At that time I didn’t want to buy i phone at all. I wanted HTC Desire, but she thought we English major should use i phone those products which was made by Americans. It’s a very weird idea. Before I bought it, I asked many people. Most of them suggested me to buy iphone, not because of the trademark, but because iphone is easier and HTC is harder to use, and they cannot believe I can use HTC.

I know many people buy Apple’s products due to the trademark, and I despise it. One day I went to Shida night market, and I saw a girl wearing ugly and short clothing and thick makeup and she talked very degradingly. And she took i phone from her bag. How unbelievable!! From then on, I swore I must buy HTC and throw my iphone away some day. (but the photographic functions are very amazing~)

However, I think this topic is al little unfair, though I wanted to be against any Apple products when I just got iphone at first. If this topic is about the brands like LV, Prada, Chanel, I may criticize those people are very superstitious and have myth to the brands. Nevertheless, 3C products are different. There are some reasons for people to purchase Apple only. Apple’s products are good qualities, they are faster, and they are more user-friendly. However, it also has its own disadvantage, like the program is totally different. If people don’t mind it, they use it not because of the trademark, but it is just better for them. Nonetheless, if some cannot use it, but they still want to buy Apple, this may be the myth to the trademark.

  2. I have no idea why numbers of people surge into stores to buy such expensive technology product. The only one I can confirm is that the trademark is a guarantee. Every product marked a bitten apple is recognized as a strongly credible promise. The simple design and additional functions is the trigger for people’s purchase. As if you get an I-phone in hand, house chores or official businesses will be done in clicks. Also psychology of showing off is a factor of 3C products purchase. I don’t know why people buy an I-phone just to play games, take pictures, surf Internet or something. I wander if they don’t have digital cameras or laptops or not. However, it is easy to explain the strange phenomenon. Getting a combination in one machine is a brand new fashion nowadays. In one word, I-phone will be bought one after another just because someone nearby you has it. Owing to the sense of superiority, people strive to get an I-phone as other people’s. All above is my opinion.

  3. I don't have an iPod, iPad, or iPhone, but some of my friends have iPhones. As for me, I never think of buying one. Since the cost is too high, I'm the one who choose those less expensive alternatives. Besides, I rarely use my cell-phone, so buying such a luxury is a squander for me.

When comes to the psychology behind this circumstance, I share the same viewpoints with Debby and Ken. For those who purchase products with Apple's trademark, it's obvious that they simply want to show off. When a country bumpkin like me sees Apple's products, my first reaction is always "Wow". And maybe it makes them feel that they are superior, but later I think they seem to drift with the tide only.

I take a brief look at Apple's website, and find that the function of iPhone is really fascinating. iPhone is a touch-screen phone, so the exterior is terseness; I think it does fit in with the fashion style nowadays. And it's incredibly versatile; people can do almost everything with this light and handy machine. I think it's another reason why people spend a lot of not only money but also time on this little apple.

  4. I have not gotten an I-pod, I-pad or I-phone, too. Surprisingly, I even could not tell what they look like and which functions they equipped. But, surely, I don’t and won’t want that so-called high-tech products at all. In my opinion, I purchase an electronic product as long as it could meet my daily demand. I don’t care whether my cell phone could log in and surf Facebook or not. If a cell phone could provide the function of wireless Internet, who will carry a laptop? Also, it annoys me to slide my big forefinger to control the touchable screen. A light press can’t work the I-phone and a heavy press might scrape the screen. And, I have to browse websites in such tiny screen. What the hell it is! No wonder majority of teenagers suffers short sight in technology society. Moreover, as a 3C idiot, it is a huge challenge to download some pivotal formulas and match its version. Consequently, I would rather buy a product which own one function than get one which equipped many unnecessary functions. That’s all.

  6. As for the girl Debby saw in Shida night market, though her appearance and clothing are not adorable, maybe she bought that iPhone with her own money as well (no matter what she works for). In last task, we have just mentioned that it's easy to misjudge a person by his/her exterior.

Like Ken, I don't like touch-screen phone, either. Yet, my condition is that I have sweaty palms. If I touch the screen, there must be sweat on it; it's really bothered. And I think why most people would rather use an iPhone than using a laptop to surf on the Internet is because that an iPhone is easier to carry about everywhere; I agree that the screen of iPhone is too small, but I think it's indeed convenient. A notebook is much more heavier, and it's weary to take it far and near. However, I think both of the two products have their own advantages and weaknesses.

  7. I only have an ipod, and it’s an old version Nano. I bought it is because its user interface is friendly and its design is beautiful and simple. As for iphone or ipad, actually if I could I really want one. I bought it about 3 years ago and now I’m still using it.
I share my opinion with you three that some people (maybe most of people) buy Apple products just to show off their “taste” (or how rich their family are); however, I do agree that Apple products, such as Macbook or iphone, do have their advantages when compared to other similar products of other brands.
For example, some of my high school friends are studying in design fields, such as animation design, graphic design, and architecture; all of them are using Macbook because its graphic programs are much stronger than any other computer or laptop. Also the equipment design of Macbook helps them do their work much easier, too. At least in this case, these people make Macbook worth buying.
As for ipad and iphone, I think Iphone is very convenient to me. Though brands like Nokia, HTC, or Samsung all have touch-screen and wireless Internet cell phone products, I prefer iphone the most because its user interface is the friendliest to me. I want one is because most of time I am outdoor, as a result, having a light, handful-size, and with many functions and wireless Internet cell phone is very convenient to me. I have to clarify that I am not Facebook-addicted. Often I found that I need to check some information about restaurant, district map, e-mail, news, or other information when I am on the way to other places. In addition, all of my assignments and part-time work are done by digital devices and with the Internet, word processors of iphone or ipad actually offer a great help to me.
However, I think the motivation to have an iphone or ipad to me is because I often need to go to one place and then another, so a smart phone is very helpful when I have many things to do yet many places to go.
So my comment is that I agree that those who buy Apple products are only for showing off are really superficial and childish; but Apple products do have their advantages and, as Ken said, their guarantee, so that those who really need its powerful functions will choose Apple.

  8. I think Elsa misunderstood what I mentioned that the girl in Shida. I don’t think my point is that one pays the money to buy iPhone by him or herself, or her appearances (and not only the appearances, but the way she talked and presented herself was not appropriate). I am surprised it’s easy to see anyone owns an iPhone anywhere. I don’t like to use the thing which everybody also has. The feeling is not good!

Although I have an iPhone, I do not show off. Many people didn’t know I got an iPhone for few weeks until I picked it up to answer the phone. I agree with Elsa that some people buy iPhone because they just want to show off. However, I just mentioned that now it’s very easy to see anyone has an iPhone (at least I saw many many people got one), and does it still make people amazed if everyone owns an iPhone? Does Steve Jobs really hope Apple everywhere even if some people do not like the product but just blindly follow the tide? Will this make Apple cheaper?

  9. Dear all,

I agree with Debby about the pervasiveness of Apple products. Well, I stay not only Taipei bout other cities, such as, Taichung city and Changhua. Indeed, there are less people own Iphone or Desire by HTC.

People may criticize the Apple trend as blind fetishism, yet we cannot deny the quality of Apple products.

I own one very old Ipod and another walkman of less known brand. I do prefer Ipod. It is the overall design, from the appearance to the interface that wins the users hearts. Even people buy the trademark in the begining, they will love it for its human based design.
